About the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund:
In 1981 the Ermineskin Chief and Council approved to establish a trust fund in perpetuity for the purpose of advancement of education for Ermineskin tribal members. As founders of the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund, the Chief and Council appointed a board of trustees to administer this trust fund. Then in 1982 an amount of $1 million of capital funds was appropriated by Chief and Council as a trust fund and to be invested whereby the income derived from investment was to be used for education costs for tribal members. Also in 1982, the Trust Deed would be signed by the first board of trustees: Rose Makinaw, Lorraine Cutarm, Theresa C. Wildcat, Brian Wildcat, the late Narcisse Makinaw and the late Emily Minde.
Once this legal document was endorsed as a Trust Deed the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund was officially established as a department. This department would be established primarily to provide educational opportunities to Ermineskin Tribal members. The trust deed is a unique document and outlines the powers that the trustees have as well as their roles and responsibilities as the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund Board.
The Ermineskin Education Trust Fund has surpassed twenty-two years of operation since the founding of the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund and are proud to have graduated over fifty degree recipients as well as approximately sixty diploma recipients in various college and university programs. To date the Ermineskin Tribe has a total of five Masters Degree recipients, two law degree holders and three other masters students studying and nearing completion.
In 2004 the Ermineskin Education Trust Fund had $9.2 million in capital from the $1 million originally invested.
