Today, the Maskwacis Cree Tribal Council hosted its annual general meeting. Many leaders from the Maskwacis community attended, along with members of the public and various dignitaries. The staff of the MCTC delivered presentations on the programs and services they currently offer to the Four Nations and the community members of Pigeon Lake, which include individuals from each Nation.
Concerns were raised about the variety of programs currently available through MCTC, but staff members reassured us that the program leaders are receptive to enhancing their offerings. Numerous suggestions were discussed, highlighting the community’s desire for more culturally relevant activities. Ideas included cultural teachings that involve our histories and traditions, hands-on fishing programs that not only teach skills but also emphasize sustainable practices, and hunting trips that cultivate a connection to our land and our culture.. People showed great interest in workshops and events that celebrate our traditional ways of life. This feedback will reflect a strong desire in the community to strengthen our cultural connections.
We are excited to see what MCTC will offer our youth and community members in the near future! Any questions on the presentations or information regarding the general meeting, you can contact MCTC at: 780-585-0016 or info@mctc.ca
