OOOooook. Hope everyone’s new year is going well. I wanted to post a bit about “Low Iron.” I feel like more than half the women I see in Maskwacis have been told this at one time or another and it’s critical they understand what it means.
Iron is what you use to make blood cells. One way we can be low is if we don’t get enough in our diet (red meat, beans, and dark green vegetables are GREAT sources). BUT- if you are BLEEDING what is the point of just eating more. Incidentally i also find that doctors VERY rarely ask women about their periods and a lot of women in the community bleed abnormally and have no idea. Taking iron pills does NOTHING to address bleeding problems. It’s like giving your kid a bath by turning the faucet on but never plugging the drain.
Too much bleeding can make you tired, can make your heart beat fast, can make you dizzy and pass out, can give you cravings for weird things like ice or even drywall. It can also be a sign of an underlying condition like CANCER, hormonal conditions, benign tumors, or other problems. All it usually takes is a quick clinic evaluation to figure it out and guess what- IT IS VERY EASY TO HELP WOMEN BLEED LESS.
So please. Have faith and talk to your doctor about bleeding. Not iron.
