Newo Kiskinoyôwina (Four Seasons) mekwac Takwâkin (Fall)
🍂 Happy First Day of Autumn! Today, we welcome the enchanting season of falling leaves, cozy sweaters, soup and bannock season! As the crisp autumn air settles in, it’s important to keep our little ones bundled up for the cooler days ahead. Parents, please remember to ensure your children are dressed warmly so they can enjoy the season in comfort!
To convey the significance of the changing seasons as Nehiyawak, we have taken an excerpt taken from the Maskwacis Curriculum Development Guide. The Maskwacîs Curriculum affirms commitment to what Maskwacîsak value in Nehiyaw education and outlines the vision for awâsisak as lifelong learners who are engaged in rich learning environments and experiences based on the MESC foundational values.
“The four seasons: Pipon (winter), Mîyôskamin (spring), Nîpin (summer), and Takwâkin (fall) are a balanced system of relationships that guide and influence Nehiyaw traditions. In a current and historical context, the four seasons guide day-to-day life, which Kise Manito gifted Nehiyawak. The significant teachings of the four seasons are to know, understand, and demonstrate respect for Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin, Nehiyawewin, and Wâhkôhtowin.”
