MESC Celebrating Treaty 6 🙌🏼🔥
Treaty No.6 Week: We have dedicated this week in honor of the Treaty No. 6 signing. Each MESC school began the week with flag raising ceremonies as well as tipi raising. The kiskinwahamawâkanak (Students) also participated in several activities in the Cree classrooms so they could learn more about this historical event and its significance. The oral history of the Treaties is retold by Elders in our classrooms to instill the importance of our language, traditions and values. The following are some Cree words associated with the English word Treaty:
🔹tipahamâtowin ᑎᐸᐦᐊᒫᑐᐃᐧᐣ (treaty; mutual payment)
🔹asotamâtowin ᐊᓱᑕᒫᑐᐃᐧᐣ (treaty; sacred oath making)
🔹itâskonikê ᐃᑖᐢᑯᓂᑫ (to have a pipe ceremony)
🔹miyo-wîcihitowin ᒥᔪ ᐑᒋᐦᐃᑐᐃᐧᐣ (to share things well together)
🔹Kiskinowâpisk ᑭᐢᑭᓄᐋᐧᐱᐢᐠ (treaty medal; metal which guides)
