“Everybody is responsible for the treaty.”
“A long time ago an elder told me ‘Our main priority is to try educate our people about our rights so we can exercise them.’ I think the more education of materials we can make available to our people, the better we will be able to stand up for ourselves.”
“It is important to teach our youth our side of the treaty, otherwise they will only learn and know Canada’s version and forget our ways.”
-Sharon H. Venne
August 9th to 11th, 2021
Sharon Venne held a Treaty Workshop for people of all ages to educate and express the importance of Treaty Rights as First Nations Peoples. She spilt the workshop into three parts; The Day Before the Treaty, The Day Of and The Day After. She goes on to express the cultural aspect that went into the signing of treaties and how it is important for us to educate ourselves on our Treaty Rights.
“It is never too late to relearn our ways,” she says.
