Delmar College recognizes that our Red Deer campus is situated on Treaty Seven territory to the South of the Red Deer River; and acknowledge this as the ancestral and traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy: Kainai, Piikani, Siksika as well as the Tsuu T’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations.
We further acknowledge our campus is situated on Region Three within the Metis Nation of Alberta, the traditional territory of the Metis people.
We also recognize that we serve the Central Alberta region which falls under Treaty Six territory to the North of the Red Deer River; and acknowledge this as the ancestral and traditional territory of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, Nakoda Sioux.
Recognizing and acknowledging the traditional land is an act of reconciliation and a show of gratitude to those whose territory we learn and work on. We acknowledge and give thanks to all the many First Nations, Metis and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
