Cookin’ up a storm with Chef Shane M. Chartrand!⚡🍄
On October 18, join TELUS Spark for Indigenous Science Night: The Fungus Among Us, for an Indigenous culinary demo and tasting with Cree Chef Shane M. Chartrand. From 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM, learn how to prepare different mushroom dishes as inspired by ingredients native to these Lands. Observe, listen, taste, and even volunteer to cook alongside Shane as his sous chef!
Acclaimed Chef Shane M. Chartrand’s debut cookbook, tawâw, explores the reawakening of Indigenous cuisine and what it means to cook, eat, and share food in our homes and communities.
Born to Cree parents and raised by a Métis father and Mi’kmaw-Irish mother, Shane M. Chartrand has spent the past ten years learning about his history, visiting with other First Nations peoples, gathering and sharing knowledge and stories, and creating dishes that combine his interests and express his personality. You can cheer for Chef Shane M. Chartrand on the newest season of Top Chef Canada, premiering Monday October 14 at 10PM ET/PT on Food Network Canada! GO SHANE GO! 🎉
Come celebrate the fungus among us during Indigenous Science Night at the science centre from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Have conversations with local Knowledge Keepers about the significance and protocols around fungi, shop local mushroom-themed goods at the Mycelium Market and even escape the zombie mushroom apocalypse in a scavenger hunt!
Indigenous Science Night – FREE for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) individuals | Adults: $10 | Youth: $5 | – It’s recommended to reserve tickets for the day, as it can sell out!
