A powerful and historic moment yesterday as First Nations chiefs, leaders and community members from across the province gathered at the Legislature to demand respect for treaty rights.
They were clear – Bill 54 is a violation of treaty because any vote on separation from Canada breaks treaty.
It was an honour to stand with them with colleagues from Alberta’s New Democrats.
This land is treaty land and we are all treaty people.
We must listen to and support First Nations leaders as they fight to protect treaty rights on behalf of their communities and generations to come.
