Take notice that a Ratification Vote of the voters of the Ermineskin Cree Nation will be held on November 30, 2021 to determine if the Voters of the Ermineskin Cree Nation approve and assent to the Ermineskin Cree Nation Settlement Agreement between Canada and ECN accordingly.
The following ballot question will be asked of the Voters of ECN
As a voter of the Ermineskin Cree Nation, do you:
a) Agree to all of the terms and conditions of the Ermineskin Cree Nation Settlement Agreement, which settles and releases the action commenced in 1993 by the Ermineskin Cree Nation against Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada in the Federal Court of Canada, action no. T-1254-92, and related claims, for the sum of $60 million in accordance with terms described in the Notice of Ratification Vote dated October 22, 2021, AND
b) Authorize and direct the Council of the Ermineskin Cree Nation to sign all documents and do everything necessary to give effect to the Ermineskin Cree Nation Settlement Agreement?
Eligible Voters will answer Yes or No on the Ballot.
A simple majority will determine the direction that Ermineskin Chief and Council will take regarding the Settlement Agreement.
Voters will be able to register online starting November 23, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
Once a confirmation of identify of voter is obtained, the voter will receive a referendum ballot and may cast his or her vote online.
The deadline to vote by virtual vote is noon November 30, 2021.
Thereafter voting must be done in person at the main poll on November 30, 2021.
The main poll will be at the NOK. The referendum hours will be 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Before the vote, there will be Information meetings for the purpose of the ratification vote they will be held on: November 3, November 17, and November 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. via Zoom Online video conferencing for the ECN members.
