Rock Soup BBQ: Tina Northwest (second from left) invited ECN Communications team to the Rock Soup BBQ hosted with food Tina had left over from her Anniversary BBQ that was cancelled due to rain on Monday.
“A couple weeks back I was brought here by a cousin of mine and I had no idea that the tent city existed…
“I came back the next day and found more relatives here and started hearing stories of the need at Rock Soup and the type of assistance that was required…
“I learned, after listening to the Town Hall meeting, that the issue here is beyond just one person’s ability to address. And one community’s ability to address. Beyond one government’s ability to address…
“While that is getting sorted out, Rock Soup needed some support and a lot of the people here that I know personally, they each have a story. It’s not just cut and dried with how they got here and that also needs to be recognized and acknowledged. It’s going to take every single one of us within our own communities to help make that difference. Indigenous communities currently struggle with resources and funding. Regardless, we still need to look after one another.
“We decided this would be the best place to bring the food because Rock Soup has been on our mind, on a lot of people’s minds. So we’re here today and we’re just doing our part.”
