Today, the staff at Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. held a meeting with the Honourable Searle Turton, Minister of Children’s Services for the Government of Alberta. The day began with a comprehensive tour of both the new operations building and the prevention building. Following discussions with the operations team, Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. (KKI) expressed its commitment to forming strong partnerships to ensure that families receive the best possible care.
They aim to collaborate closely with government ministries on the following goals:
1. Strengthen Coordination – Clearly define roles and responsibilities to support the transition to Nation-led child and family services.
2. Improve Mental Health Supports– Ensure families have access to culturally appropriate and holistic mental health and crisis services.
3. Clarify Funding – Secure fair and sustainable funding to support staff, programs, and community infrastructure.
4. Build Capacity Together– Develop joint training focused on cultural safety and trauma-informed care.
5. Share Data Respectfully – Establish data-sharing agreements that protect privacy while enhancing seamless care for families.
Collaboration across ECN departments and provincial partners ensures children and families will receive the full range of culturally grounded care they deserve.
This work is more than building programs — it’s reconnecting our Nation to ancestral law, family, and community wellness. Together, we’re creating a future where every child grows up with safety, identity, and belonging. ❤️
