✨ November is Diabetes Awareness Month ✨
This month, we shine a light on the strength and resilience of our communities, who continue to face disproportionately high rates of diabetes due to generations of inequity in healthcare access, food systems, and social determinants of health.
Diabetes awareness isn’t just about education, it’s about advocacy. It’s about supporting Indigenous-led wellness programs, honoring our traditional foods and knowledge, and ensuring that our communities have the resources and respect they need to thrive.
Today, Maskwacis Health Services hosted a beautiful Diabetes Education Awareness Gala at the Wetaskiwin Agricultural Society. The event saw a great turnout, featuring guest speaker Marisa Cardinal, a proud Dexcom warrior, who shared her experiences living with Type 2 Diabetes.
It was truly an eye-opening gathering that highlighted important information about the challenges faced by our communities with diabetes not only for those living with the condition but also for caregivers and loved ones who support them.
As we raise awareness, let’s uplift our Indigenous voices, challenge systemic barriers, and work together toward healthier futures grounded in culture, community, and healing. 💙🌿
