Newo Kiskinoyôwina (Four Seasons): Takwâkin (Fall) 🍂 Tânisi! Happy First Day of Autumn! Today we welcome Takwâkin, the season of change and preparation. The falling leaves remind us of balance, cycles, and the gifts that each season brings. As the cooler air settles in, it is time for cozy sweaters, warm soups, and bannock shared with loved ones. Parents, please remember to bundle up your little ones so they can enjoy the crisp days of fall in comfort.
In the Maskwacîs Curriculum, the Four Seasons are described as a balanced system of relationships gifted by Kise Manito that continue to guide Nehiyawak in day-to-day life. Each season carries important teachings, and Takwâkin invites us to reflect on respect for Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan (the Indigenous mind), Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin (Cree way of life), Nehiyawewin (Cree language), and Wâhkôhtowin (kinship and interconnectedness).
As we enter this season, may we carry these teachings forward and honor the gifts of Takwâkin together.
