📣 Introducing the MESC Board of Governors: The Maskwacîs Education Schools Commission (MESC) is guided by the MESC Board of Governors, a leadership body grounded in Nehiyaw values and the principles of Wâhkôhtowin (kinship and interconnectedness).
The Board of Governors ensures that MESC achieves its mission to govern an outstanding education system that reflects Cree ways of knowing, being, and doing. Acting on behalf of the four Maskwacîs Cree Nations: Ermineskin Cree Nation, Louis Bull Tribe, Montana First Nation, and Samson Cree Nation, the Board provides strategic direction, oversees policy, and upholds education in Maskwacîs as a sacred Treaty right and a source of community pride.
Through a governance model built on four key pillars: Ends, Executive Limitations, Governance Process, and Board Management Delegation, the Board defines educational outcomes, sets ethical boundaries for operations, ensures accountability, and maintains strong relationships with the Superintendent and the community.
Together, the MESC Board of Governors upholds the Nehiyaw principles of Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyawewin, Nehiyaw Pimâtisôwin, and Wâhkôhtowin, leading with integrity, unity, and a vision for lifelong learning rooted in Cree identity.
