Overview

The Ermineskin External Affairs Department is responsible for the operational activities of Litigation, Membership, Restorative Justice, Tribal Law and Children’s Services. In addition to this, External Affairs works with leadership and administration on various matters that affect Ermineskin Cree Nation. On a broader level, it endeavors to maintain and protect the interests of the Ermineskin Cree Nation of Treaty 6 with respect to long term commitments to treaty rights by keeping informed of developments regarding Federal, Provincial and International legislations and developments that may affect Ermineskin Cree Nation. Services offered by the External Affairs department include notary/commissioner and Political Sponsorship for elders

Ermineskin Cree Nation Settlement Allocation Summary 2022:

The ECN Settlement Committee’s Mandate is to Determine and Recommend to Chief and Council allocation of settlement funds. The Chief and Council approved the allocations in August 2023.

The funds were to be allocated in 4 Pillars of Priority for the needs of ECN Citizens. 35 Million was to be allocated to programs and services. The 4 Pillars of Priority are:

  • Cultural Identity/Human Security
  • Education/Training
  • Economic Business Development
  • Infrastructure

 

NT TRUST 10%, $6,000,000.00

PCD 1  $2650 per person, approx. $12,000,000.00

Extra PCD 2 $1500 per person, approx. $7,000,000.00

 

These programs and services were allocated settlement dollars for programming and service delivery.

Update Drinking Water Class Action Eligibility:

ECN Gowling Day School Memo, Notice and Claim Forms

The documents below are applicable to all students who attended or suffered abuse/harm at a Federal Indian Day School or Federal Day School, operated by the Government of Canada

Deloitte Indian Residential School Day Scholars Class Action Settlement Claim Form

A Federal Court Order has appointed Deloitte to process claims for the Indian Residential Schools Day Scholars Claimants. If you have general questions about the Claim Form, Claim process, or to report an address change after submitting your Claim, contact the Claims Administrator at 1-877-877-5786 (toll free).

The claims process to apply for the Indian Residential Schools Day Scholars Compensation has now gone live as of January 4th, 2022.
Eligible claimants have until the Claims Deadline of October 4, 2023 to submit a claim.

Ermineskin Curfew By-Law

Council of Ermineskin Cree Nation deems it to be in the best interests of Ermineskin to amend the 1992 Curfew Law to respond to the emergency, to secure the health and safety of individuals attending at or residing on the Ermineskin Cree Nation's Reserve lands, to encourage the observation of law and order and to prevent disorderly conduct and nuisances on its reserve lands.
