Day 4 of our literacy camp was amazing!! Today was all about practicing Wahkohtowin with others and ourselves. We had 30 mins of reading time by ourselves or with a partner. We played roll the dice exercises. We then read the book The Invisible Boy. Students volunteered their time to help make cards for Meals on Wheels. These cards go to people who have no family and friends in the area. They may be elderly with mobility issues or health issues and may not get to leave their homes often. These cards are used by Meals on Wheels to help those individuals feel less isolated and an opportunity to enjoy student art work that has been created for them. Students put so much hard work and time into making absolutely gorgeous cards with absolutely beautiful messages! There will be some happy people out there when they receive them! We also worked with creating an I Am statement poster about ourselves. We wrote I Am statments about who we see ourselves as. We experimented with crayons and water colors and collaging it with construction paper, our I Am statements and our own photos. The posters turned out gorgeous! We then spent time on playing sight word games and activities. We played bingo, splat, we did some snakes and ladders and crosswords and word searches! The younger ones got to try out some sight word rhyming riddles! Wow!!! Did we ever have a busy day!! Enjoy the pictures from today and read the beautiful messages written by the students.
