Congratulations on your great achievement!
Two students from the Mamawi Atosketan Native School, Elias Mykat from Ermineskin Cree Nation and Kenyon Bull Mykat from Louis Bull school project was chosen as one of the finalists for the prestigious Zayed Sustainability Award, distinguished as the sole representative from North America.
Their Growcer Farm Project was chosen from more than 7,700 applications from 173 countries, making MANS the only North American finalist in the “Global High Schools – The Americas” category.
The project builds on the school garden and classroom hydroponics program, which earned an ATCO greenUp Award in 2025.
A new container-based hydroponic farm would bring fresh produce to students year-round while giving them hands-on experience in science, leadership, and sustainability.
As Melanie Dussaye, who submitted the proposal, says:
“This project is about empowering our youth. Their voices matter, and they can create real change.”
We’re incredibly proud of our students and this opportunity.
Today they announced the winner, and these students won!
The school will be endowed with $150,000 USD, which will be utilized to construct a greenhouse, facilitating year-round produce cultivation and promoting sustainability, education, and food sovereignty for our students and community.
