Attention Community members, Community Public Health has noticed a Shigellosis outbreak.
Shigellosis, an illness caused by Shigella bacteria, has been identified in the Maskwacis area. Shigella bacteria are found in the feces of infected individuals.
People who have Shigella bacteria on their hands can infect themselves by eating, smoking, or touching their mouths (Shigella bacteria must be swallowed to cause illness). The illness can spread very easily from person-to-person because it only takes a very small number of Shigella bacteria to make a person sick.
