On Thursday May 13th the Ermineskin Industrial Relations Annual General Meeting provided Ermineskin members with an overview of the organization’s ongoing consultations, partnerships, environmental initiatives, and community support programs.
Presentations highlighted their involvement with major projects, including consultations with industry projects, as well as collaborative environmental studies along Alberta’s eastern slopes with other First Nations.
The work includes monitoring water, aquatic life, wildlife, and land impacts through research, interviews, and ongoing data collection to help protect ancestral lands and support future environmental advocacy.
A strong focus of the meeting was the importance of band membership participation in sharing concerns, observations, traditional knowledge, and recommendations regarding the health of the region’s water, air, land, plants, and wildlife.
Community voices are essential in helping guide environmental stewardship and ensuring Indigenous knowledge remains central in decision-making.
The AGM also highlighted partnerships with Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), regional lake monitoring projects involving Pigeon Lake, Buck Lake, and Battle Lake, and the many community events and initiatives sponsored by Ermineskin Industrial Relations throughout the years.
Members are encouraged to attend these meetings, stay informed, and become involved in the consultation and monitoring processes, as community participation plays a vital role in protecting the Nation’s lands, resources, treaty rights, and future generations.
Their next meeting is today in Pigeon Lake. We highly encourage Pigeon Lake residents to attend. Your input is highly valued.
Meeting will be held at the community hall at 5:30 pm. Hope to see you there. Food and door prizes will be available.
