🌟 Talk Treaty to Me — A Night to Remember 🌟 Tonight was truly a night filled with good medicine. Our hearts were full and our spirits lifted as we came together at the Jonas Applegarth Theatre for Talk Treaty to Me — a powerful, emotional, and deeply resonant performance co-created and written by Theresa Cutknife and Samantha Fraughton. 🎭✨
To all the community members who filled the theatre — AY HAY! Your presence made the night truly special. From elders to youth, families to educators, your support and energy reminded us of the strength we hold when we gather in the name of truth, language, and story. 🧡
We extend our deepest thanks to: MESC Superintendent Tracy Swampy-Sylvester, Board of Governors Chair Shauna Bruno, and SILR Director Pamela McCoy Jones for providing inspiring opening remarks that grounded the evening in purpose and pride. Your words set the tone for an unforgettable journey. As well as the MESC Curriculum Department for hosting such a wonderful event.
Treaty is more than a topic, it is a call to action, it is a commitment, it is our rights and it is also the greatest responsibilities that each of us carry for our and others survival.
The play explored perspectives of Treaty from varying lenses including through an Indigenous Law lens. It is a play intended to provoke dialogue and exploration of what it means to be a treaty person or not.
As the audience enjoyed today’s performance, they were asked to reflect on their understanding and responsibility to the Treaty today, tomorrow and those yet to be born as they are our next up and coming leaders of our Nations.
The materials produced in the MESC Nehiyawewin Learning Kits were collaboratively created and curated by members of the MESC Curriculum Department, Elder Betty Simon, and the MESC Communications Team. These kits are an invaluable resource that would not be possible without the generosity and support of SILR (Supporting Indigenous Language Revitalization). SILR Director Pamela McCoy Jones provided some opening remarks.
Ay hay nanâskomowin to the cast! What a great performance. Miywasin!
